Mission Impossible Fallout DVD

TOM CRUISE STARS IN THE CRITICALLY ACCLAIMED SMASH HIT

On 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray & DVD December 3, 2018

Produced by Tom Cruise and Bad Robot, Paramount Pictures and Skydance present MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE—FALLOUT is out now.

Mission: Impossible - Fallout DVDOn a dangerous assignment to recover stolen plutonium, Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) chooses to save his friends over the mission, allowing it to fall into the hands of a deadly network of highly skilled operatives intent on destroying civilisation. Now, with the world at risk, Ethan and his IMF team (Simon Pegg, Ving Rhames, Rebecca Ferguson) are forced to work with a hard-hitting CIA agent (Henry Cavill) as they race against time to stop the nuclear threat.

Written and directed by Christopher McQuarrie, MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE—FALLOUT also stars Sean Harris, Angela Bassett, Michelle Monaghan and Alec Baldwin.

It’s good to see another instalment of Mission Impossible directed by Christopher McQuarrie – a talented director who handles huge action scenes, car chases and helicopter chases, in London, Paris and Kashmir, with ease and to make a genuinely entertaining and thrilling movie. Although why they continue to use the whole rubber masks, pretending to be someone else thing, is confusing. It’s hardly the height of international espionage is it? It’s comic I suppose and a way to give Benji, played by Simon Pegg, something to do. But it’s been used so much in previous instalments that I think it’s been overused now.

Support comes from Ving Rhames, Alec Baldwin, Rebecca Ferguson and Michelle Monaghan, who I’m always pleased to see in movies as she has for some time now been one of my ‘age appropriate’ ‘screen crushes’. At 42 she’s just 2 years older than me. This doesn’t apply to youngsters, but at a certain age (approaching 40), you too may find that you should stop watching movies just because they are populated by young attractive women. I decided to do this several years ago… other women on my age appropriate screen crush list are Carla Gugino (47) and Kate Beckinsale (45). And can you believe that Amy Adams is only 44 - she seems much younger?! but also makes the list. I digress….. let’s get back to Mission Impossible.

Tom Cruise’s performance, in particular is impressive, he handles action and humour as well as ever, but he also mines his acting depths here with some, perhaps unexpected, emotional scenes that genuinely hit home. Cruise really does own the Misson Impossible franchise. He’s front and centre in every important scene and he really is undeniably the star - and rightly so. His star wattage is evident throughout and in any other movie he appears in.

Of the supporting cast, Pegg is less well suited to this type of movie and whilst he is now a mainstay of the Mission Impossible cast I’d prefer to see him in one of his own films as a loveable goofball.

Rhames, Baldwin and Ferguson are all passable, they’re not really high on my list of actors who I would have chosen for these roles. I tend to watch films mostly based on actors… and these aren’t actors who I’d generally go out of my way to watch. Monaghan of course is a different matter, and her performance is enjoyable - although I’d never consider her to be an Oscar winning actress!

A franchise that spans over 20 years and has 6 films to its name must be doing something right. Will there be more Impossible Missions?
