Bombshell (2019)
Based on true events and filled with cutting, thought-provoking ‘me too’ sequences BOMBSHELL is a must-own blockbuster is a revealing look inside the most powerful and controversial media empire of all time; and the explosive story of the women who brought down the infamous man who created it.

From the writer of ‘The Big Short’, Bombshell also stars Kate McKinnon, Connie Britton, Mark Duplass, Rob Delaney, Malcolm McDowell and Allison Janney.

Jay Roach whose biggest hits include the comedy movies Meet The Parents and Austin Powers might not at first seem to be the best choice to direct a fairly hard-hitting, based-on-real-life-events movie, but he directs with assuredness and flair. Handling the powerhouse acting talents of Theron, Kidman and Robbie with support from Lithgow and McKinnnon may have been a challenge but the end result is nothing short of brilliance. Bombshell along with the likes of recent true-events films such as Spotlight and The Post is Oscar worthy and has rightly be lauded as one of the best films of the year.

The cast, without exception, no doubt encouraged by the high-calibre of their colleagues all produce excellent performances. Worthy of special note however (as always it seems) is Theron. She’s just such a versatile and talented actor able to do comedy, or drama with equal ease. But it’s her ability (as with Monster) to crawl under someone’s skin and really inhabit the character that impresses the most. Add that to her fearlessness to act from behind prosthetics (or to become ‘ugly’ - again in Monster) and you have an actor that can become anyone - quite the chameleon - and she also does an incredible job in changing the register of her voice and accent to complete the transformation into her character.

Bombshell is the definitive movie for the #MeToo era and it exposes the exorbitant emotional and physical price women have paid to be successful in the workplace.
