Ballistic: Ecks vs. Sever : About The Location

The Right Location

Principal photography on Ecks vs. Sever began December 19, 2001, in Vancouver, a location that provided the director with the kind of space and atmosphere he had in mind. An avid reader of comic books and graphic novels and a huge fan of action movies, Kaos had always wanted to shoot the movie very wide. While Vancouver is a frequent film location, it is seldom identified as such on screen, more often doubling for another locale. But Kaos preferred to use the location completely and show it as it is. "We chose to shoot specifically for that city,"
the director says of the specific Canadian location. "It's working out well and the location has been exceptional. " "The city plays a character in its own way," Lee concurs. "Most of the time, when people shoot in Vancouver, they're forced to shoot very tight because they're trying to match another location. But because we're shooting wide, you can appreciate how beautiful Vancouver really is. "
"Plus," he adds, "we're sort of playing it against type: it seems like a peaceful place and it's not. "
