Dark Corners DVD

Thora Birch stars in Dark Corners, a horror thriller written and directed by Ray Gower about a woman living two lives, one in her dreams and one in reality, while stalked by a hideous monster. Thora plays Karen Clarke, a troubled woman who falls asleep and wakes as Susan Hamilton, a normal girl whose once normal life becomes infiltrated with strange occurrences. Thora plays both roles. The film completed principal photography at the end of 2005 in London.

Thora Birch was nominated for a Golden Globe for Ghost World and an Emmy for Homeless to Harvard: The Liz Murray Story. She recently starred in John Sayles’ Silver City and Sling Shot which premiered at The Tribeca Film Festival.

Toby Stephens (Die Another Day) and Christien Anholt (The Relic Hunter) also star. Shoreline Entertainment are handling the film’s worldwide sales rights.

Dark Corners is the second collaboration between Matador Pictures and Shoreline Entertainment after Voodoo Lagoon, starring Ashley Hamilton and John Noble, which was filmed on location at Warner Roadshow Studios in Australia. Voodoo Lagoon is about a group of college students lured to a remote tropical island by the evil owner who is out to fulfill a voodoo prophecy. The film was written and directed by Nicholas Cohen.

The partnership between Matador and Shoreline brings together both companies’ widespread expertise in production, financing, marketing and sales, increasing the viability of each project. “We are excited to be working with a company as well-regarded as Matador Pictures,” says Ruskin. “Their films are commercially successful and critically praised. Dark Corners and Voodoo Lagoon will continue in the same tradition.”

“Shoreline Entertainment exemplifies what we’re looking for in a production partner,” says Matador’s Nigel Thomas. “They have an acclaimed background, extensive knowledge of the worldwide market and an outstanding sense for first-rate material.”

Shoreline recently produced Marilyn Hotchkiss’ Ballroom Dancing and Charm School, a Sundance Premiere starring Robert Carlyle, Marisa Tomei, John Goodman, Mary Steenburgen, Donny Wahlberg and Danny DeVito, which will be released theatrically by Samuel Goldwyn Films. They currently have Everything’s Gone Green, based on a Douglas Coupland screenplay, directed by Paul Fox and starring Paulo Costanzo, in post-production.

Synopsis

DARK CORNERS stars Emmy Award and Golden Globe nominee Thora Birch (American Beauty, Ghost World) and Toby Stephens (Die Another Day).
Karen Clarke wakes suddenly to the piercing shriek of her clock radio. It is still dark, the green glow of the digital numbers read 03:18. She shuffles to the bathroom, switches on the light...
... and recoils in horror at the reflection in the mirror - she has been badly beaten but apparently has no memory of how… She collapses to her knees and throws up into the toilet.

CLINK!

Something metal hits the porcelain. Confused, Karen reaches in and pulls out a key. A very strange locker key...
Karen works in a mortuary, preparing bodies for pre-funeral viewings, and on this particular morning all seems relatively normal... Until a corpse sits up, grabs Karen's wrist and curses her for “What she has done!” And that's just the beginning.
Strange, ugly people led by the monstrous Needletooth seem to be stalking her every move, plaguing her already bizarre existence. Even in her own home she feels their malevolent presence.
And every time she wakes, she has been beaten.

Her only reprieve from this hellish existence is when she sleeps. For the moment Karen Clarke falls asleep she awakes as Susan Hamilton - a normal girl with a normal life and a normal job.
Susan believes Karen to be her nightmare alter ego.
Karen believes Susan to be her dream of a better life.
But which is the real world and which is the dream?
As strange occurrences begin to infiltrate Susan's once normal life, the boundaries between conscious and subconscious become increasingly blurred.
But is she prepared to face the truth? The truth held within her own mind.
The truth unlocked only by that strange locker key…
