Invasion, The : Movie Review

Trailed by negative buzz pointing to a colossal flop of Hudson Hawk proportions, The Invasion confounds such dire expectations, albeit just barely. The third remake of the sci-fi classic Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1956) was clumsily pieced together by no few than four directors, including the notoriously press-shy Wachowski brothers (The Matrix) and their protégé, James McTeigue), who took over from German director Olivier Hirschbiegel (Downfall). The unsatisfying result is an only intermittently gripping thriller that's nowhere near as frightening or provocative as Don Siegel's masterful original, or Philip Kaufman's equally hair-raising remake, Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1978).
