Expendables 2, The : Movie Review

Who’s your favourite Expendable? There’s a few more to choose from in this sequel to Sylvester Stallone’s first film in this throwback franchise, directed by Con Air’s Simon West. The plot is simple. Whilst on a routine mission, Stallone and his band of mercenaries, made up of familiar faces from the action movies of yesteryear, run afoul of Jean Claude Van Damme’s rival group of soldiers of fortune. Thus begins a tale of revenge, plutonium and a whole mess of botox.

The main problem with the fairly average first film was its strange lack of humour. You’d think that getting a bunch of action icons together on screen would result in no end of witty quippery, tongue in cheek dialogue and mirth-inducing references. Alas it was not to be. This failing is well and truly resolved in The Expendables 2 which contains all of the above and a Chuck Norris Fact to boot.
