Biological weapons are being used in an unnamed East European war zone. Leon S. Kennedy is the main character as he is in many of the most recent Resident Evil games. The biological weapons are turning people into zombies and other weird zombie-monsters. Against direct orders Leon goes in to investigate.

Let’s get one thing straight right away: Resident Evil: Damnation is beautifully animated. I mean perfectly, impeccably, beautifully. This is shown no more ably by the characters’ hair which is animated as if each strand of hair has been individually rendered with, skill and in painstaking detail, so much so that main character Leon has astonishingly clean and tidy hair throughout... despite fighting zombies, lickers and several end of level baddies! The producers have not really stuck to realism in this respect, but the animators will have wanted to make it look as good as possible all of the time so that is understandable.

Resident Evil: Damnation : DVDThe storyline is a little weaker than I’d like. It's starts of with some historical guff then and it’s a while before the zombies turn up... slightly unlike your normal zombie as these zombies can apparently use weapons. Then towards the end the zombies are replaced by end of level baddies in trench coats. Those big fellas that are really difficult to kill.

Resident Evil: Damnation looks a lot like the cut scenes from the games. In fact it's quite similar to watching an extended cut scene. Does the storyline really do it justice? I'm not sure… probably not enough for 100 minutes.

I think that the very best quality of the film is the fact that it keeps to the tradition of the games and does an excellent job of recreating the ambiance of the game as the characters walk along corridors, zombies moaning and shuffling towards them.
The voice actor work is also good and in the majority the voices sounds and feel real as well as matching the animated characters well.

Overall I think I'd prefer to either stick to playing the game or watching one of the live action films but for any hardcore Resident Evil fan this is still a must see/must buy release. Zombie fans in general will also enjoy it. For anyone else out will still be a perfectly acceptable way to pass the time.
