Copenhagen Internationel Film Festival

A new film festival in Copenhagen It’s all happening this summer! On August 13th 2003 we’re rolling out the red carpet for the cinema audience. For a whole week Copenhagen will be humming with film experiences and festival activities around the clock. But why a new film festival? Aren’t there already lots of film festivals both in Denmark and abroad? You could say that, but Denmark still doesn’t have its own ’classical’ film festival like the one you’re about to experience. With an international jury for the main competition CIFF aims to join the league of well-known international film festivals that have been our main source of inspiration. CIFF appeals to both a broad audience and to the national and international film industries. CIFF is for all of us that are interested in new film experiences and curious about the world beyond Denmark’s boundaries. Together we’ll be able to experience it all during the uniquely packed days of the film festival. If you’ve ever wanted to experience the prestigious film festivals in Berlin, Cannes or Venice - the rendezvous of film stars and directors - CIFF is about to give you the chance to feel the festival buzz, albeit in a smaller scale, combined with a genuine relaxed Copenhagen atmosphere right on your doorstep. Stars of the film world from the endless films participating in the festival are coming to town to participate in live interviews, film debates on contemporary issues, as well as in master classes and other events where you’ll either have the opportunity to ask direct questions or to be a fly on the wall. It’s going to be an extraordinary film week during which both the audience and international guests will be put to the test as professional festival goers. Armed with festival programmes we’ll all be rushing breathlessly from cinema to cinema trying to cram in as many films as possible. Between the films there’s also the chance to meet friends in the audience’s own festival centre. Specially converted for the festival, Politiken’s lecture hall in Vestergade will house a mini café cinema, food and drink - and there may even be the possibility of a close encounter with a genuine star. The entire city of Copenhagen will be high on films and festivities. From the opening gala in the Imperial cinema on August 13th to the award ceremony at the same venue on August 20th it will be a week packed with intense experiences. Compile your own programme and throw yourself into it! We look forward to seeing you at Copenhagen International Film Festival.
