Until the Light Takes Us (2008) - Synopsis

A tale of murder, music, burning churches and media manipulation, Until The Light Takes Us is unlike anything you have ever seen before.

It tells the story of the sometimes dangerous, sometimes misunderstood, certainly outrageous musicians who define Norway’s ‘Black Metal’ scene – a cultural movement that rose to worldwide notoriety in the 1990s, with lurid stories of Satanic rituals, suicide and murder.

‘Black Metal’ would forever redefine heavy metal, but the truth behind it has wider implications – it tells us about a culture in crisis, desperate youth and just how far people will go for what they believe.

American writer/directors Aaron Aites and Audrey Ewell moved to Norway and lived with Black Metal musicians for several years in order to create this intimate, shocking and ultimately moving portrait of the troubled men who blazed a path of murder, fire and fear across the northern sky.
