Scary Movie (2000) - Synopsis

Scary Movie (2000)

From the gleefully unhinged minds of the Wayans Brothers, comes SCARY MOVIE, a raucous comedy that rocks contemporary teen culture, leaving no horror film, high-school sex comedy, action flick - or even spoofs themselves - unspoofed. With SCARY MOVIE, the mad-cap, gross-out traditions of Animal House (1978) There's Something About Mary (1998) and south park Bigger, Longer & Uncut (1999) head for the next extreme - as the Wayans Brothers take on everything from anatomy to advertising with an outrageous frankness that redefines the term raunchy in a way so funny.....it's scary.

Defying the very notion of good taste, SCARY MOVIE out-parodies the pop-culture parodies with a no-holds barred assault on the most popular images and talked-about moments from recent films, television and commercials. The film boldly fires barbs at the classic scenes from Scream (1996) Sixth Sense, the (1999) Matrix, the (1999) I Know What You Did Last Summer (1997) and Blair Witch Project, the (1999) then goes on to mock a whole myriad of teen movie cliches, no matter the genre.

It all starts with the murder of a beautiful high school classmate, after which a group of misguided teens - all played, of course, by 20-30 year old actors - discovers there is a killer among them. Heroine Cindy Campbell and her clique of clueless friends, including Buffy, Brenda, Bobby, Greg, Shorty and Ray, must protect themselves from danger.... and that pesky reporter Gail Hailstorm who just won't leave them alone! Sound familiar? It certainly is, but as the story gets under way, a series of gruesome and hilarious surprises blows the lid off the expected plot twists and turns them into something funny and twisted.
