Me Without You (2001) - Synopsis

Me Without You (2001) - Synopsis imageAnna Friel, Michelle Williams and Kyle Maclachlan star in an evocative portrait of friendship, jealousy and love.

In a long, hot summer, Holly and Marina make a childhood pact to be friends forever. For Marina, troubled, fiercely independent, determined to try everything, Holly stays the only constant in a life of divorcing parents, experimental drugs and fashionable self-destruction. But for Holly, a friendship that has never been equal gradually starts to feel like a trap.

Her memory of that summer's day is not the childish rituals - but her first adult realisation that it's Nat, Marina's brother, who holds the real fascination for her. She's grown out of her Biba bikini - could it be that she's outgrown Marina, too?

Dawson's Creek's Michelle Williams puts aside her bubbly Jennifer Lindley persona as the thoughtful Holly determined to keep her own identity separate from Anna Friel's Marina. Kyle Maclachlan stars as Daniel, the American lecturer with a great line in Baudelaire, and newcomer Oliver Milburn as Nat. Also starring Trudie Styler, Me Without You (2001) is a funny, moving and uplifting evocation of the 80s - decade of post-punk and protests - that will strike a chord with anyone who has ever lived through friendship and survived to tell the tale.
