ANNE HECHE has been signed up to join ROBERT DOWNEY JR as a new member of the ALLY McBEAL cast.

The actress, who hit the news earlier this summer (00) when she split from lesbian lover ELLEN DEGENERES, is now reported to be pregnant by and engaged to cameraman COLEY LAFFOON.

And she's back in the news with a three-episode deal to play a high-maintenance client for McBeal's law firm. Heche begins production on the show next week (begs30OCT00). (KL/WNV/RGS)
