Will Smith's Too Big For Spielberg

Movie hunk WILL SMITH is lamenting his massive success - because it limits him to appearing in big-budget blockbusters. The INDEPENDENCE DAY star says he realised his acting career was suffering when he met up with movie mogul STEVEN SPIELBERG. He explains, "Just playing around, I said to Steven, 'Man, why don't you ever put me in nothing?' He said, 'Oh, no, you're too big for my movies!' "What he meant is that the persona that I had created was too big for the little stories that he tries to tell. He tells a little story and it gets big by the grandness and the acute precision of the telling of the story, not because he hires the most expensive actors in Hollywood." He adds, "He actually shies away from the big, top personas. He hires actors. In my mind I'm saying, 'Wow, okay, so I'm missing a facet. There is a part of me as an actor that is lacking.' "I realised that there was a whole side of myself and there was another level of my talent that I would never see if I didn't venture into different types of films." (JM/WNWCCC/CPT)
