New Shows Give CBS A Lift

Pleased with the performance of nearly all of its new shows, CBS is expected to announce that it will make a full-season commitment to Bette, CSI, The District, The Fugitive and Yes, Dear, according to trade reports. The network is still considering what to do about two other newcomers, That's Life and Welcome to New York. In an interview with Daily Variety, CBS-TV chief Les Moonves called the quality of the new shows "phenomenal" and credited the fact that they had been promoted on Survivor for their success. "Our promos were seen by more people," Moonves said. "Effective promos get people to the set, and on certain shows, people liked what they saw and came back."
