QUENTIN TARANTINO takes funnyman ADAM SANDLER seriously - he wants to direct the wacky star in his first serious role.

The cult PULP FICTION director showed up to the glitzy Los Angeles premiere of Sandler's new film LITTLE NICKY last night (2NOV0) - and made it clear he wanted to transform HAPPY GILMORE into a serious Oscar-winner.

Tarantino, who makes a cameo appearance as a blind preacher in the new film, explained, "I wouldn't direct a funny Adam Sandler movie because him and his buddies do a good job of that already. "I would love to direct him in one of my movies. I'm writing a movie at the moment, so we'll have to see. It would be really great." A cautious Sandler says, "As long as it's not too serious then I would love to do something like that." (MB/WN/NFA)
