Viacom has been in talks to acquire BET Holdings, the parent company of the BET (Black Entertainment Television) cable company for about $3.4 billion, the online Multichannel News reported Tuesday, citing people familiar with the matter.

The publication indicated that the talks occurred "within the past several weeks" and are now not on the "front burner."
