Movie Leaders Vow To Enforce Ratings

MPAA chief Jack Valenti plans to meet next week with executives of the major studios charged with assuring compliance with the ratings system, the Hollywood Reporter reported today (Wednesday). In an interview with the trade paper, Valenti said, "The people who kick the ratings system are mostly critics, producers and directors, but not the people for whom it was designed: The parents. ... They like it." John Fithian, president of the National Association of Theater Owners, indicated that NATO members will back the MPAA. "Theater owners will continue to work with parents to ensure that their children see only appropriate films," Fithian told the Reporter.
