Gone With The Wind

Andrew Lloyd-Webber's Whistle Down the Wind, which the composer had originally planned to produce simultaneously as a stage show and a movie musical, has posted closing notices at the Aldwych Theatre in London's West End.

The musical debuted in the U.S. in 1997 but was yanked by Lloyd Webber after it received a critical drubbing from critics following a Washington D.C. tryout. After reworking it, Lloyd-Webber opened the play successfully in London in July, 1998. (Richard Attenborough produced the original 1961 film, starring Haley Mills and Alan Bates, on which the musical is based.)
