Fred Schepisi, who directed Steve Martin in Roxanne in 1987, is set to direct a screen version of Martin's play, Picasso at the Lapin Agile, to be produced by New York-based Abandon Pictures, Daily Variety reported today (Friday). The comedy, about a fictitious meeting between Picasso and Einstein, takes place entirely in a bar. (Presumably, the locale will be widened for the movie.) Martin, who did not appear in the play, is not expected to appear in the movie, either, Variety indicated.
