"Dr. Seuss" Widow Censors "Bathroom" Jokes From Carrey Movie


The widow of Theodore "Dr. Seuss" Geisel exercised veto power over the script for Universal/Imagine's Jim Carrey starrer, How the Grinch Stole Christmas!, according to the current (Nov. 13) issue of Newsweek. "There were too many bathroom jokes," 79-year-old Audrey Geisel told the magazine. "That's not the Seuss world, not at all." She also reportedly forced the removal of a scene showing a home in Whoville that contained neither a Christmas tree nor presents but did display a Hanukkah Menorah. ("The Who-steins," the Grinch concludes.) In addition, she demanded the removal of a stuffed trophy of the Cat in the Hat hanging on the Grinch's wall, according to the article (which also noted that she has "reclaimed" a planned DreamWorks version of the The Cat in the Hat that was to have starred Tim Allen because "They just couldn't get it right."
