JULIA ROBERTS and BENJAMIN BRATT are sporting his-and-her matching wedding bands - but insist they're not engaged.

The PRETTY WOMAN clung to lover Bratt's arm as he walked the red carpet last night (06NOV00) in Los Angeles at the world premiere of his new movie RED PLANET.

Holding hands and snuggling up, the pair were obviously in love, but very reticent to show off or talk about their sparkling rings. Physically turning off one reporter's dictaphone when he asked a question she considered inappropriate, the actress refused to hold up her ring for the cameras, adding, "There's nothing new to show, we've been wearing these rings for years."

Bratt was less coy about his finger jewellery, proudly displaying it as he leant on the barrier to be questioned - but he refused to so much as comment the ring's significance.

One fan says, "It's very odd. I suppose they're just friendship rings but it's very rare for a man to wear a ring on his wedding finger if it isn't a wedding band." Bratt wears one chunky silver band, while Roberts wears the same silver band and a second, jewelled ring. (SVD/WN/NFA)
