Bounce To Become First Satellite-Distributed Movie

The Miramax film Bounce will be projected digitally in 16 theaters when it opens Friday, becoming the first film ever to be distributed via satellite, Daily Variety reported today (Wednesday).

The trade paper said that Disney, Miramax, AMC Entertainment, Texas Instruments, Williams Communications, QuVis Corp. and Energy Digital are participating in the digital launch of the film. Boeing satellites will be used for the transmission. Ben Affleck, who stars in Bounce, told Variety, "It's pretty remarkable. What you're looking at is the future of motion picture distribution."
