MEG RYAN's estranged husband DENNIS QUAID has been romancing ROD STEWART's ex RACHEL HUNTER. The heart-broken INNERSPACE star turned to HUGH HEFNER to help him find another girlfriend after his wife went off with GLADIATOR heart-throb RUSSELL CROWE.

A pal says, "Dennis asked Hugh to help him find somebody new. He's anxious to mend his broken heart and Hugh is just the man to help."

According to America's THE STAR magazine, Hefner held a private party last week (ends17NOV00) so Quaid could meet with some of Hollywood's most eligible women.

A friend says, "Dennis was like a kid in a candy store, chatting for a few minutes with one girl before moving on to another. That is until Hef introduced him to Rod's ex Rachel. "Rachel and Dennis sat in a corner and discussed how difficult it is to be a single parent and how young boys are often reluctant to talk about their feelings."

And the pair got on so well, model and actress Hunter even offered to look after Quaid's young son JACK. The source adds, "Rachel invited Dennis to bring Jack to her place to meet her two kids. She even offered to take care of Jack if Dennis ever needed her to. Dennis was touched by Rachel's thoughtfulness and took her phone number."
