Geoffrey Rush, who stars as the Marquis de Sade in Philip Kaufman's Quills, which opens in limited release this weekend, has told today's (Friday) New York Times that he is not concerned about how well the Fox Searchlight film will perform opposite strong commercial competition this holiday weekend. T
The former Australian stage actor told the newspaper: "In an age of mass pop culture, where we want everyone to see everything, sometimes you hear from studio executives about a certain project that, oh, this film will only appeal to 500,000 people. ... As if that's nothing. A half million people! For a play, that's like a year- and-a-half run in a 1,000-seat theater. Look at the social impact that plays have had that have had that kind of a run."
