The BBC today (Monday) issued an official apology to rival ITV for news reports that appeared last week quoting a "BBC insider" as charging that ITV may have rigged an episode of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire in which a contestant won £1 million ($1.4 million) so that it would air opposite the final episode of the BBC's long-running comedy series One Foot in the Grave.
The public corporation issued a statement blaming the reports on an "overzealous press briefing" and added, "The BBC does not believe there was any 'manipulation' or 'fixing' involved in Millionaire
