Amanpour Heading For Another Network?

CNN's chief international correspondent Christiane Amanpour, one of the best-known personalities on the news channel, has been working without a contract since June and is looking to tie up permanently with ABC, NBC or CBS, the online edition of TV Guide reported Monday. (Amanpour currently files occasional reports for CBS's 60 Minutes and 60 Minutes II.)

The magazine says that although CNN has offered Amanpour a lucrative contract that she is unlikely to match anywhere else, monetary considerations may not be paramount to her. It quoted unnamed friends as saying that she has doubts about the direction CNN may be heading following a recent management shake-up.

However, an unnamed network insider told the magazine: "Christiane wants a platform to cover what she deems important international news day in, day out. It may dawn on her that CNN may be the only place where she really can do that."
