CNN founding member Ed Turner to launch California News Channel

Former CNN News exec Ed Turner (not related to CNN's Ted Turner) is planning to launch a California all-news cable channel based in Sacramento, the state capital, the San Francisco Chronicle reported Wednesday. In an interview with the newspaper, Turner remarked that the channel, to be called CNS, "will be a California version of CNN, if you will." He also indicated that the channel will be run by several former CNN executives, including Ted Kavanau, credited with creating CNN Headline News in a period of only three months, who will head up the CNS news operation. Turner told the Chronicle that he expects financing to be completed within four or five days and for the station to go on the air approximately four months after that.
