Carry on Goes Simpson Style

The British cult classic CARRY ON films are carrying on - as cartoons.

PETER ROGERS, the 86-year-old producer of the original movies, can't bear to end the tomfoolery and is now masterminding a new animation series called THE CARRYOONS.

KEN BURNS, who is producing the show, explains, "I thought it would be great to do something like THE SIMPSONS. The series will be inspired by the originals, but it will have completely new scripts. The script for the pilot is hilarious." Surviving members of the original films, which began in 1959, have been approached to provide the voice-overs, and JOAN SIMS has already shown interest. Impressionists are being sought for the remaining roles.

Twenty-six half-hour episodes are being made to begin with, with post-production work carried out at England's PINEWOOD STUDIOS, where the earlier series was filmed. (KW/WNBTE/RGS)
