Hank's Oscar Boost

TOM HANKS has been given a boost in his fight for yet another OSCAR - he picked up the Best Actor prize for CAST AWAY at the FILM CRITICS AWARDS on Sunday (14JAN01).

But, despite the fact the FCAs often predict who will walk away with the top prizes at the Academy Awards, GLADIATOR and its star RUSSELL CROWE remain hot favourites to pick up the big awards at the OSCARS.

Meanwhile, TRAFFIC and NURSE BETTY picked up Best Drama and Best Comedy respectively at the fifth annual GOLDEN SATELLITE AWARDS yesterday (15JAN01).

Other winners at the Film Critics Awards include: Best Director - STEVEN SODERBERGH (TRAFFIC & ERIN BROCKOVICH) Best Supporting Actor - BENICIO DEL TORO (TRAFFIC) Best Actress - LAURA LINNEY (YOU CAN COUNT ON ME) (KL/WNV/KW)
