Molly Shannon Leaving SNL To promote Film Career


Saturday Night Live star Molly Shannon, best known for her role as the klutzy Catholic-school student Mary Katherine Gallagher, is expected to announce today (Monday) that she is leaving the show to pursue her film career, the New York Times reported today.

Her 1999 film Superstar, which reportedly cost $14 million to make, grossed $30.6 million at the domestic box office -- despite a terrible reception from critics (one of whom called it "about as funny as an oozing fever blister.") Shannon is set to star in three upcoming films, "Wet Hot American Summer, Osmosis Jones and Serendipity
