Cruise's New Role Will Be Magical

Actor TOM CRUISE is set to give a magical performance in his latest role - playing a British magician who helped defeat the NAZIS.

The TOP GUN hunk is desperate to play the part of music hall illusionist JASPER MASKELYNE, who in WORLD WAR TWO used his skills to make vital installations 'vanish' - by creating illusions that made tanks and ammunition dumps invisible to German bombers.

Now executives at PARAMOUNT PICTURES plan to celebrate the forgotten war hero and have snapped up the film rights to a book about him called THE WAR MAGICIAN. They hope Cruise, 38, will star in the movie after he completes work on his current project, MINORITY REPORT. (KW/WNTSU/CPT)
