For Baywatch, It's The Last Wave

Citing lower ratings and higher costs, Pearson Television on Wednesday cancelled Baywatch Hawaii, bringing to an end one of the most successful syndicated dramatic series of all time. Bill Lincoln, Pearson's COO in Los Angeles, told today's (Thursday) Honolulu Advertiser: "Our decision was that the series had run its course, and it was time for something new." Series regular Pat Morita told the newspaper, "Whenever these things happen, it's an unfortunate surprise. ... I had high hopes that they had turned a corner, to move into the right direction. But you're talking about money brokers, so once the bank drops, there's nothing anyone can do but wrap it up." The series originated on NBC in 1989 and switched to syndication two years later.
