Catherine and Kirk's Mutual Support Group

CATHERINE ZETA-JONES handed her father-in-law KIRK DOUGLAS a lifetime achievement award and an arm to lean on at last night's star studded PRODUCER'S GUILD AWARDS.

The Welsh star, who was among the presenters at the glitzy Los Angeles ceremony last night (03MAR01), presented the MILESTONE award to Douglas for his work in film production over the years. And, on his arrival in the press room, an exhausted Kirk, who suffered a stroke a few years ago, says his daughter-in-law is highly supportive of him in every sense of the word. Kirk says, "I'm exhausted by the walk here, I've been leaning on my daughter-in-law. She's so strong."

And Zeta-Jones, who took Kirk's hefty award from him, telling him, "let me just take the weight off that for a minute - I need the exercise," adds the feeling is mutual as she couldn't find a better father-in-law or grandfather for her son DYLAN. Zeta-Jones says, "He's the most supportive grandfather to my son, goes to see him all the time, he's given him a wonderful present of books he's had signed and as a father-in-law, I feel very blessed with this one."

Before leaving, Kirk slyly told the gathered crowd, "Catherine says such lovely things I begin to believe them myself." (LE/WN/MCM)
