Vivendi Vows "To Be Very Offensive" On The Internet.

Vivendi CEO Jean-Marie Messier predicted Tuesday that Vivendi's acquisition of Seagram Co. will be completed in November.

He boasted that the combined companies will have all of the skills necessary to function successfully "in the media world of the coming century."

Interviewed on CNBC, Messier parried questions about Universal's efforts to bring down Internet sites that have offered ways for consumers to download free copies of CDs and video. "We're not going to be defensive on the Internet side," Messier said. "We are going to be very offensive in the interest of the customers."
