Ang Lee Receives Award For Taiwan Government


LATEST: ANG LEE has handed over the entire $30,300 (£20,200) he recieved as a government award from his native Taiwan to his old high school.

The CROUCHING TIGER, HIDDEN DRAGON (2000) director, who is the first Taiwanese ever to win an ACADEMY AWARD, says the government prize he was awarded on Thursday (26APR01) was for him, "the most real" cash he's ever had.

He adds, "This prize makes me feel as if I've got my two feet on the ground." Lee donated the prize to his high school in the southern city of Tainan. (LE/LADN/ES)
