Robert De Niro To Receive Honourary Award


Movie legend ROBERT DE NIRO will receive a 2001 lifetime achievement honor during the 11th annual INDEPENDENT FEATURE PROJECT GOTHAM AWARDS. De Niro will attend the ceremony at New York's Chelsea Piers in October (01), which typically draws more than 1,000 filmmakers, actors and entertainment executives in support of New York-based independent film. De Niro has appeared in about 70 films and produced more than 10 with his TRIBECA PRODS. partner JANE ROSENTHAL. He's a six-time OSCAR nominee, picking up the best supporting actor nod in 1974 for GODFATHER PART II, THE (1974) and the best actor gong in 1980 for RAGING BULL (1980). Last year's lifetime achievement award went to director ROBERT ALTMAN. Previous honorees include actors AL PACINO and MERYL STREEP, directors SIDNEY LUMET and MARTIN SCORSESE, MIRAMAX Films co- chairmen BOB and HARVEY WEINSTEIN, and NEW LINE CINEMA chairman ROBERT SHAYE.
