Actress MELANIE GRIFFITHs had to turn off the medical machinery keeping her father alive - after she had kissed him goodbye for the last time.

According to American magazine STAR, Griffith spent a four-day, three-night vigil at her father PETER GRIFFITH's bedside, before giving him a final farewell. As Peter slipped away the actress whispered in his ear, "You're going to be at peace now dad. "

A family friend explains, "When doctors told the family that there was nothing more they could do, they were numb with shock. "No one loved their father more than Melanie, but she believed he'd gone through enough. It was Melanie who realized that an act of mercy was needed. " (SVD/TS/NFA)
