ARNOLD SCHWARZENEGGER's mother-in-law EUNICE KENNEDY SHRIVER has been injured in a head-on car crash.

Kennedy Shriver, the sister of late American President JOHN F KENNEDY, broke her leg and required surgery after being taken to the CAPE COD HOSPITAL in Massachusetts on Thursday (05JUL01).

The 79-year-old is the mother of Arnie's wife MARIA SHRIVER. Hospital spokeswoman DEBORAH DOUGHERTY says, "She's not dancing today but all her vital signs are stable, there were no complications from the surgery. She is resting comfortably. "

Earlier reports stated that Shriver may have suffered a head injury during the accident.

According to local radio reports, witnesses saw her hit her head when her sports-utility vehicle collided with a pickup truck, in which she was not wearing a seat belt. The 20-year-old man who was driving the truck was cited for making an illegal left turn, while Shriver was cited for driving a vehicle with an expired registration, the radio report said.
