Hunky actor DENNIS QUAID found splitting up with wife MEG RYAN "like death". Although the FREQUENCY (2000) star admits he's happy being single, he reveals his break-up with the 39-year-old actress was traumatic. He says,

"I got through shock. Depression. Anger. All the rest of that stuff. When you break up, your whole identity is shattered. That's why it is like death. It is death. Next to losing a child, the break-up of a marriage is the hardest thing to go through. I just sat there and went through it. But I'm glad I did because I think it helped me get over it."

"You can stop talking to each other and pretend it never happened - that's probably the way it would be if we didn't have a child together - but we do have a child together. "

Quaid says he plans to remain single and still has a "good" relationship with Ryan, the mother of their nine-year-old son JACK. He continues,
