Jeremy Irons' Bid To Stay Forever Young

British actor JEREMY IRONS is so desperate to remain youthful in the public eye he refused to make a film unless they made his character five years younger.

The 52-year-old BRIDESHEAD REVISITED star, who was furious when recent press reports stated he was 57, refused to take the lead part in his 1992 film WATERLAND until scriptwriters took five years off his character's age.

His age protest meant that the scriptwriter had to radically rework the script, based on the book by GRAHAM SWIFT, to be set in the early, rather than the late 1970s. (LE/WNTMI/KW)
