Sean Penn Slams Oscars


Movie bad boy SEAN PENN has labelled Hollywood's most exciting night of the year - THE OSCARS - as "embarrassing. " The Californian actor has been nominated for Best Actor ACADEMY AWARDS twice so far - for SWEET AND LOWDOWN (1999) and DEAD MAN WALKING (1995), but so far failed to pick up the golden statuette.

Speaking at the British premiere of his directorial outing PLEDGE, the (2001) at the EDINBURGH FILM FESTIVAL in Scotland this week (begs20AUG01), he took a stand about the glitzy event.

She says, "At the Oscars you either get two seconds to thank God or you get to be an extra in this terrible TV show. I'd be embarrassed to be there. "

The husband of ROBIN WRIGHT has promised to boycott next year's (02) ceremony if his JACK NICHOLSON-starring crime thriller. (ES/WNWCAN)
