Martin Scorsese and Steven Spielberg have agreed to collaborate on a movie about the first transcontinental railroad, Into the Setting Sun, Daily Variety reported today, citing no sources.

Scorsese will direct, Spielberg will produce, according to the trade paper. The screenplay is being written by Bill Wittliff (Legends of the Fall, Country, The Black Stallion, The Perfect Storm). TheVariety item did not indicate when production of the film is expected to begin.
