Horror flick JEEPERS CREEPERS (2001) has creeped its way to the top of the American box office chart. The film, about a brother and sister's encounter with a creature on a country road, broke sales records for the usually quiet LABOR DAY weekend (begs01SEP01), taking $15. 8 million (£10. 9 million).
The previous record over the holiday weekend was $9. 8 million (£6. 7 million) for Crow: City Of Angels, The (1996) . JACKIE CHAN's RUSH HOUR 2 (2001) is still kicking and fighting and managed to hold on to the number two slot, taking $11. 8 million (£8. 1 million).
Teen comedy AMERICAN PIE 2 (2001) has slipped to number three in the chart after three weeks at the top, with receipts of $11. 7 million (£8 million). The only other new entry in the top 10 was for the updated Shakespeare tragedy O (2001), based on Othello - which made $6. 9 million (£4. 7 million) in its opening weekend. (RP/WNWCCB/IG)
