Oscar Loser Winslet Wins In Fashion Stakes

British beauty Kate Winslet may have lost out on the Best Supporting Actress gong at the Oscars - be she certainly won in the fashion stakes.

The Iris (2001) star walked up the red carpet at Hollywood's Kodak Theater with new beau, director Sam Mendes, in a strapless red Ben De Lisi gown with a Hawaiian flower strap at last night's (24th March 2002) ceremony.

Fashion experts and readers of People and Glamour magazines were impressed with her choice, with 93 per cent of Glamour online users saying they loved it. Kate said she was quite comfortable, but added, "I wouldn't like to attempt to pee at this point."

Best Actress Halle Berry stunned Hollywood again in a sheer tulle top and cranberry taffeta skirt by Lebanese designer Elie Saab. Seventy one per cent of Glamour users admired Halle's choice. Best Actor Denzel Washington picked up more than a statuette at the bash after he and wife Pauletta were touted as the best dressed couple, wearing a navy Giorgio Armani tuxedo and Carmen Marc Valvo dress respectively.

And Best Make-up Oscar presenter Reese Witherspoon turned heads with a black lace cap-sleeved Valentino gown, labelled by People magazine, "a fashion winner. "
