FIELD OF DREAMS director PHIL ALDEN ROBINSON is in final negotiations to direct PARAMOUNT PICTURES's THE SUM OF ALL FEARS, a thriller based on the 1992 TOM CLANCY best-seller.

BEN AFFLECK is slated to star in the film. HARRISON FORD had been attached to play CIA analyst JACK RYAN but backed out, at which point Affleck stepped in and rewriting of the script commenced.

Robinson's directing credits include SNEAKERS and IN THE MOOD. He also wrote and directed the TV movie FREEDOM SONG.
