Julianne Moore has signed up to star in new supernatural thriller called The Forgotten.

The actress, who is up for two Oscars, will play a grieving mother struggling to cope with the loss of her 8-year-old son.

She is stunned when her psychiatrist tells her she has created eight years of memories of a son she never had.

But when she meets a fellow patient who has a similar experience, Telly embarks on a mission to prove her son's existence and her sanity.

The Columbia Pictures film, directed by Joseph Ruben, will start shooting before the end of the year.

Moore is nominated for Oscars for her performances in Far From Heaven and The Hours.

She will shoot the romantic comedy Laws of Attraction opposite Pierce Brosnan in July, before making The Forgotten.
