Catherine Zeta Jones gives birth to girl

Catherine Zeta Jones has given birth to a healthy baby girl, her publicist has confirmed.

The Oscar-winning actress gave birth to 6lb 12oz Carys on Sunday morning at Valley Hospital in Ridgewood, New Jersey.

Her publicist, Cece Yorke, said: "They're all doing fantastic."

Zeta Jones, 33, won an Oscar last month for Best Supporting Actress in the musical Chicago.

Born in the Mumbles area of Swansea, Zeta Jones's first success came in 1990 when she landed the role of Mariette Larkin in The Darling Buds of May. She went on to star in The Mask of Zorro, Entrapment and Traffic.

The couple married at the Plaza Hotel in New York in November 2000, signing an exclusive deal for coverage with OK! magazine.

When rival magazine Hello! published unauthorised photographs of the wedding, the couple took legal action, which ended earlier this month with both sides claiming victory.

The High Court judge ruled Hello! breached the couple's rights of confidence but said they had no claim in law on an invasion of privacy.

Hello!'s publishing director Sally Cartwright said nine out of the 13 claims against them had been thrown out, adding: "The areas where he has found against us are, frankly, commercial ones."

Damages have not yet been assessed.
