Madonna has revealed her admiration for Coldplay singer Chris Martin.

She was asked if she approved of Gwyneth Paltrow's "new man" by Radio 1 DJ Jo Whiley.

In the interview, to be broadcast on Monday, Madonna says: "Yeah he's great! I think he's incredibly talented."

The programme will also feature live tracks performed by Madonna at HMV London at the end of last week.

Asked about her inspirations, she says: "Women that I really looked up to when I was first starting out were Debbie Harry and Chrissie Hynde.

"I thought they were really strong. I loved their sense of irony which I think is missing from pop music right now."

She says she is happier in the UK now than before. Asked if she misses her friends when in London, she says: "You know what, I used to get really lonely when I first came over here.

"I used to get lonely and sad and complain a lot to Guy (Ritchie) but I've got friends here now, some really nice friends now, so it's kind of cool because I see them when I come here and I see my other friends when I go there."
