Titanic director James Cameron plans to make a new disaster movie about the destruction of Pompeii.

He's snapped up the screen rights to Ghosts Of Vesuvius, a forthcoming non-fiction book from Charles Pellegrino.

The Oscar-winning director plans to use the book as the basis for a fictional movie which he will produce and may also direct, Variety reports.

Cameron and Pellegrino have worked together before - the author made an appearance in Cameron's Imax Titanic documentary Ghosts Of The Abyss.
