A Hot Upfront Market For Outback

CBS is planning to cash in on the summer success of its Survivor series by tripling prices for ads on its upcoming sequel, Survivor II: Australian Outback, that will debut as the lead-out from CBS's Super Bowl telecast Jan. 28, published reports said today (Monday).

Advertising Age reported that CBS is currently asking $500,000 to $600,000 for a spot on the upcoming series. "The ad rates for the second series will increase in line with the popularity of the show," CBS spokesman Dana McClintock told today's USA Today.

Ad Age pointed out that ratings for the sequel are likely to be lower than they were for the series that ended last week, given the fact that it will be competing for viewers with first-run programming during the regular season.
